Is There A Difference? (Between having your own baby and being a surrogate mother)

Here is a question that I find easy to answer...because there IS a difference...between having a child for yourself and having a baby for another couple, one that is not biologically related to you. A baby that is not expected to inherit your genetics. A little life that won't have your eyes or your husbands toes or share a siblings crooked grin. It is TOTALLY DIFFERNT. And the pressure! If you have never gone through IVF to have your own kids it sure is a whole new world to do it for someone else. For an infertile couple (or a gay couple for that matter and in one of my cases) you are signing up for test upon test just to qualify and then medications that you never knew were "naturally" in your system in the first place...probably because you never had to shoot yourself up with any of it before...Progesterone, Estrogen, Lupron, maybe add a few side dishes....like Viagra which is considered more affective then baby aspirin by assisting with blood flow to the uterus and lining thickness. The point is who signs up for all that PLUS the Pregnancy and Labor and Delivery? A woman who knows there is a difference, that's who! A woman who is willing to take the risk and go through IVF hell for another who has tried everything to have a baby but for some reason that dream alluded her/them. A woman willing to take even better care of herself then she might have with her very own pregnancies because she knows so much was lost was lost already and she refuses to add to that pain. The difference is that although each and every baby born is exceptional an IVF baby being carried by another woman is a miracle!
